Effort To Make Roberto Clemente A Saint Gets Papal Show Of Support
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A movement to have Pittsburgh Pirates' legend Roberto Clemente canonized as a saint has gotten a show of support from The Vatican.
The effort is being led by Pittsburgh native Richard Rossi.
He says he received a letter Friday from a representative for the Pope, the United States Apostolic Nunciature, blessing the effort.
It says Rossi followed proper procedure in putting together Clemente's case.
The matter will now be directed to Puerto Rico's archbishop.
Rossi also wrote and directed a film about Clemente's life.
