Edinson Volquez: 'I'm In the Right Spot'
BRADENTON (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates pitcher Edinson Volquez sat down with "The Fan Morning Show" at Spring Training this week to chat about his offseason and the work he's doing with pitching coach Ray Searage to prepare for the 2014 season.
Here is some of what he had to say:
On the changes to his delivery that Searage is helping him make:
"When you're trying to do something new, it's kind of hard to do the right way. It's a long process to try to fix me like they did with [Francisco] Liriano last year. Everything, it's all about making adjustments. We're in a good way right now."
On Searage identifying some good throws and some bad throws while they work on his motion:
"That's part of the process. Sometimes you're inconsistent in the strike zone. As soon as I throw the good pitches in, he'll start calling me, like, 'I love you! You're my boy!' you know, trying to help me out. We're on the same page. We're going to be good."
On how much of what he's working on is mental:
"Like 90 percent. I'm a very positive guy, very positive. So I'm in the right spot."
On which of his teammates he already knew before he joined the team this offseason:
"I've known Liriano for a long time. We played in the same Little League when we were little so we're pretty close."
