Man Fatally Shot Inside South Side Bar
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) -- A man was fatally shot inside a South Side bar early Sunday morning.
It happened at the Rowdy Buck bar in the 1300-block of East Carson Street around 12:40 a.m.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Dahrique Smith, of West Mifflin.
According to police, a passerby told an officer who was working a secondary detail at the Thirteen Eleven bar that there were possible shots fired inside Rowdy Buck.
Officers on foot patrol were sent to the scene. When they arrived, they found Smith on the sidewalk. He appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
As a crowd gathered, it became difficult to maintain control of the situation.
"Our officers did have a very difficult time maintaining a level of calm with the crowd," Pittsburgh Police Spokesperson Sonya Toler said.
Paramedics were called, and Smith was sent to UPMC Mercy in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 1 a.m.
Police say they determined during their investigation that the shooting did occur inside Rowdy Buck.
Some people say the shooting is evidence that crime is spiraling out of control on the South Side.
"I come home from work, park my car, leave it there and don't come out after dark," one man said.
The investigation is ongoing.
