Duquesne Basketball Team Among Those Stranded On Turnpike

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It was a long Friday night and Saturday for the Duquesne basketball team. They were among the slew of people stranded in the snow on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, due to a massive storm rocking the east coast.

The team reported that they were stuck beginning 9:15 Friday night. They were on their way home from Virginia after winning a game against George Mason.

By 3:30 p.m. Saturday, they announced that it looked like they would be spending yet another night stranded on the bus.

But, around 9 p.m. Saturday, there were reports that the bus was moving again, and that the team would hopefully be back by midnight. The whole team worked together to get the bus out of the snow and on the move.

Late Saturday night, they tweeted that they were finally back home, 30 hours and 24 minutes after they first began heading home.

The National Guard and the Salvation Army were called in to bring food, water and aid to those stranded on the roadway.

Throughout the ordeal, the team made a point to thank emergency workers who brought them aid.

They managed to have some fun with the difficult experience, playing in the snow and hanging out with a group of middle schoolers from Iowa.
