3rd Suspect In Violent 2-State Crime Spree In Custody
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The third suspect in a violent crime spree that spanned parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio is now in custody.
New Castle State Police confirmed Monday evening that Donald McClain was no longer at large and was taken into custody sometime after 5:30 p.m.
The two other suspects in the case, Tyler Amos and Brandy Mae Rombold, were arraigned and taken back to New Castle.
They're now in the Lawrence County Jail on $250,000 bond each.
Contrary to previous reports, there was no child with them during their alleged crime spree.
That child has been located, and is safe in Crawford County with family.
The whole incident started Saturday night in Perry Township, Lawrence County.
Jeff Cable, 60, noticed a shed was open at his business.
Police say when he went to the shed to take a look, he was attacked by a man with a gun.
The victim tried to run back to his vehicle and escape, but the individuals shot at his car and forced him into an office building at gunpoint. The individuals used a baseball bat and a gun to beat the 60-year-old man. They also punched and kicked him.
State police say he sustained injuries to the head, face and body.
According to state police, there was a struggle at one point and the individuals attempted to shoot the victim, but the weapon apparently misfired.
Police say the same man also beat up Cable's 84-year-old father-in-law.
Both men were taken to the hospital.
The suspects then stole Cable's vehicle and fled the scene. State police say the stolen vehicle was found burned and destroyed in a nearby field. The individuals fled the scene in Rombold's Jeep, which was found on Douglas Road in North Sewickley Township.
A criminal complaint says Rombold went there to visit her grandparents and ask them for money and a car.
According to state police, the individuals also stole a 1999 green Ford Expedition from Rombold's step-father's body shop in Ellwood City. That vehicle was also found in New Sewickley Township. The individuals then stole firearms and a 2016 white Toyota Highlander from Hummingbird Hill in Cranberry Township.
Officers located the Highlander and the individuals in Cadiz, Ohio, and they pursued the individuals on foot into a wooded area. Rombold was apprehended and taken into custody. She was in possession of stolen firearms when she was taken into custody.
According to state police, additional crimes have been discovered during the investigation, including the theft of a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle, which the individuals drove to the scene of the robbery.
According to a criminal complaint, Rombold told police McClain had previously worked at Cable's business and said no one would be there because of the holiday weekend. Rombold said McClain knew there was a safe containing cash at the business.
