Dog Shot During Apparent Home Invasion In Arlington
ARLINGTON (KDKA) -Police are looking for the suspects who allegedly broke into a home in Arlington.
It happened around 9 p.m. Monday on Spring Street, near Arlington Avenue.
"I heard about four, possibly five gunshots," said neighbor Don Diggins.
When police arrived, the two male victims said they were planning to go out when the unidentified suspect showed up.
The suspect brandished a firearm and forced his way into the home.
He was described as being an African-American male standing about 5-feet-11-inches and weighing 210 pounds. He was wearing a black tassel cap and all black clothing.
The victim's dog was shot as it approached the suspect. At that time, the suspect fled the scene on foot.
After hearing the shots, Diggins ran down the street with neighbors to see what had happened.
"I saw a dog, a Great Dane, it was a mix, but it was a big dog. I saw him bleeding, hurried up and had my wife call 911," Diggins said.
Diggins said there was a trail of blood from the dog from his next door neighbors house all the way up to where the shooting took place about three blocks away.
"Pittsburgh Police were actually great, they actually picked up the dog and took him to a veterinarian hospital," Diggins said.
The dog was last listed in stable condition at an animal hospital in Castle Shannon.
One of the male victims was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for a back and leg injury. He has since been treated and released.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Meanwhile, a donation page has been set up for the dog, named Major Dane, as he gets treatment for his severe injuries. If you'd like to help him, click here.
