'Do Or Die' Game On Horizon For Pitt

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Just two games into their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, the Pitt Panthers sit with a 1-1 mark in the Coastal Division. However, they are certainly not out of the race to represent the division in December's conference championship game.

Losing this Thursday at Virginia Tech (4-2, 2-0), though, could serve as a devastating blow to the Panthers' chances of turning their season around. After all, Pitt has lost three consecutive games, including an embarrassing non-conference home loss to Akron.

"[Critics] are looking a little bit deeper than they were a few weeks ago," safety Ray Vinopal said. "Now, it really is do or die. We're 3-3 [overall]. We're going to have to make a run to achieve our goals."

Vinopal is looking forward to the primetime matchup against the Hokies.

"Thursday night, we're the only show in town," he said. "If that doesn't get you ready…that's a good one to get the ball rolling with."

Both Virginia Tech and Pitt were off this weekend. The Hokies have won back-to-back games against Western Michigan and North Carolina, respectively.

The Panthers lost last season at Virginia Tech, 19-9. The last time the two teams squared off at Heinz Field was in 2012, a game won by Pitt, 35-17.
