DNA, Video Leads To Trial In Sisters' Slayings
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The next-door neighbor accused of robbing and fatally shooting two sisters in their East Liberty home earlier this year has been ordered to stand trial.
At a hearing Friday morning, prosecutors introduced evidence, which they say implicates him in the case; however, Allen Wade's lawyers say it doesn't prove anything.
It was an unsolved murder mystery for weeks.
Now that they have a suspect, the evidence was finally outlined.
Included in hat evidence is a DNA report that says there's a more than six-trillion likelihood that Wade's DNA was found under Susan Wolfe's thumbnail, as well as a more than quintillion likelihood that other DNA is Wade's.
His attorney wants to know more.
"I'd be eager to get the scientist that performed the DNA test on the stand to see how he broke that down," said attorney Blaine Jones. "How he arrived at that number."
Sarah and Susan Wolfe were found dead in their home on Chislett Street on Feb. 7. They'd been shot in the head.
Wade claims he had nothing to do with it.
But prosecutors played a series of surveillance tapes that captured someone in a red hoodie, gray sweatpants and white tennis shoes walking around East Liberty shortly after the murders.
The suspect is seen using Susan Wolfe's ATM card, figuring out the pin and withdrawing $600. But a mask covers the face.
"You can't determine the gender. You can't determine the race. You can't determine the weight," said Jones. "And this is Penn Circle on a Thursday night. I don't know who it was."
Later, someone resembling Wade buys a pack of cigarettes at a gas station, but there's no red hoodie or gray sweatpants.
Police say Wade ditched the clothes and they recovered the sweatpants with Wade's DNA on it.
The case probably won't go to trial for several months. The remaining question right now is will the district attorney seek the death penalty? It's under review.
