Disaster Declaration Signed For Aid After Huge January Storm
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama has signed a disaster declaration for Pennsylvania and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery following the massive snowstorm in January.
Wednesday's declaration makes federal funding available to the commonwealth and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the Jan. 22-23 storm in almost two dozen counties.
Federal funding is also available for snow assistance for the 48-hour period around the storm in the same counties. Funding for all counties for hazard mitigation will be available on a cost-sharing basis.
The storm dumped more than two feet of snow on parts of the commonwealth, and hundreds of motorists were stranded along a 16-mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
