'Daniel Tiger' Exhibit Opens At Children's Museum Of Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's been months in the making, and now a brand new exhibit at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is ready for visitors.

"The new exhibit is called Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, a grr-iffic exhibit that gives kids an opportunity to be in the neighborhood," explained Jane Werner with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh.

Kids see the adorable community on the popular PBS show Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. The series premiered in 2012, and now children will be able to step into that world in person.

"They feel like he is one of them and so to go into his world and this exhibit and feel like they are part of the neighborhood is very, very exciting," said Paul Seifken with the Fred Rodgers Company.

The Children's Museum and the Fred Rodgers Company teamed up to create the exhibit.

There are areas for kids to dress up in costumes and wearable cars. There are plenty of activities for playing, exploring, and pretending. Some of the features are designed to open up conversation between parents and their kids.

"There's a 'thank you tree', so you can actually fill out leaves of what you're thankful for and hang it on the tree," Werner said.

Children will also be able to learn some of the social and emotional lessons that are part of the television show.

"Daniel speaks directly to them and he is their age and so they see him as their friend, and he goes through a lot of the challenges that they go through in terms of dealing with mad feelings, or learning how to share," Siefken said.

The attraction officially opens Saturday. It will be at the museum until January of next year, before it begins a national tour to cities across the country.
