Crime Stoppers: Police Seek Suspect In Penn Hills Home Invasion, Fatal Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Authorities are searching for the suspect in a home invasion and shooting in Penn Hills that claimed the life of a father of three.
Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers has posted a $1,000 reward in the shooting death of 33-year-old Edwin Hammond Jr.
Hammond, who worked as a boilermaker, was fatally wounded by a masked gunman in his Joan Drive home in Penn Hills one month ago.
Det. Robert Opferman, of the Allegheny County Police, said that Hammond and a friend arrived home the night of Jan. 23 when they encountered an intruder wearing a half mask.
Multiple shots were fired and Hammond was killed.
The victim's sister, Renita Harrison, told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti, "My brother was a joy to be around, it hurts every day to know we can't pick up the phone and call him."
His mother, Rose Hammond, said her son was there if anybody needed help. She said, "The person that did this to him, I want him found."
