Mom, 2 Kids Rescued From House Fire In Millvale
MILLVALE, Pa. (KDKA) -- Three people were rescued from a house fire in Millvale.
Firefighters rushed to the side of a home on William Street in Millvale on Monday. Minutes later, a volunteer firefighter with Cherry City was pulled out on a stretcher before he was taken to the hospital. He was later released.
"They were making entry to the second division. A flashover occurred. Called mayday and were able to escape," said Millvale Fire Chief Karl Cavanaugh.
Another Cherry City firefighter twisted his ankle. The chief says four other firefighters with various departments are OK after suffering bumps and bruises.
Neighbors watched it all unfold.
"We could see the smoke and the flames in the house. They were very high, the whole side covered in smoke," said Barbara Oswold.
Oswold looked on and was concerned for the people who live on the street.
"I have some really good friends that live on that street. Of course, right away, I panicked because I thought it might be one of them," said Oswold.

However, she didn't know the family who lives in the house that caught fire. The family didn't want to go on camera but said four people live in the home: A mom and her three kids.
The Millvale police chief said one of his officers helped them get out of the home.
"He did a great job, as do all of our officers. Proud of them. He's fairly new but well-trained. Didn't hesitate and encouraged them to get out," said Millvale Police Chief Tim Komoroski.
Officials say the cause of the fire is accidental. The damage estimate is $150,000.
The Millvale fire chief said the home was destroyed.
The family is staying with relatives and is being helped out by the Red Cross.
