Fire Erupts At Automotive Business In Shaler Twp.

SHALER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A two-alarm fire sent emergency crews to an automotive business in Shaler Township late Friday night.

According to emergency dispatchers, the fire broke out after 10 p.m. at GIS Automotive along Route 8.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal was called to the scene and investigated. The battery in a hot rod that was in the shop sparked the fire.

Shaler Township Police say all six volunteer fire departments in Shaler, plus some other surrounding communities responded to the scene.

One firefighter was checked out for a wrist injury, police said.

Clean-up was underway Saturday afternoon, and they expect to reopen later this week.

"We've already started the clean-up efforts. There were only two cars that were a total loss," David Norris, a friend of the GIS Automotive owner, said. "The remainder just have smoke and minor water damage, and the clean-up efforts are already underway."
