1 Dead, 1 Injured In Route 65 Crash In Bellevue

BELLEVUE (KDKA) -- One man is dead and another person was seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident that shut down Route 65 in Bellevue for several hours Saturday evening.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. along Route 65 near Kendall Avenue.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 67-year-old Lawrence Evans. He died in the emergency room at Allegheny General Hospital.

According to Bellevue Police, Evans was in a red minivan when it rear-ended an SUV stopped at a light headed north on Route 65.

Police say the impact sent the SUV into the opposite lane, hitting another car that was stopped at a traffic light. One of the vehicles caught fire.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were all called to the scene.

The person in the SUV went to the hospital in serious condition.

Route 65 at Kendall Avenue was shut down for several hours in both directions, but reopened just after 10 p.m.
