Man killed in Wilkinsburg shooting
WILKINSBURG, Pa. (KDKA) - A man is dead and Allegheny County Police are investigating after a shooting in Wilkinsburg.
According to police, they were notified of a shooting just before 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Franklin Avenue.
Once first responders arrived, they found the man who had been shot was taken to the hospital via private vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The medical examiner identified him as 37-year-old Cornell P. Lee Jr.
For 30 years, Gina Marshman has called Franklin Avenue home. Back then, she said children played outside and the violence was far away.
"Very friendly," said Marshman. "People got along. Neighbors knew each other. Matter of fact, you didn't hear about anything up in this area. You heard about it further down by the bus rail."
It's the second shooting on Franklin Avenue in a week. On Tuesday, another man was shot several times and was last listed in critical condition.
Residents said it's impossible to forget the BBQ shooting on the same street in 2016 that killed five adults and an unborn child.
"Horrific and heartbreaking," said Marshman. "I just don't have words to express how horrible that was."
Marshman said she's concerned about her safety and her neighbors.
"I wish that we as the people can come up with solutions to resolve these issues and help our children in the street," she said.
Marshman said she'll continue to pray and communicate with the community, hoping her street will soon return to its friendly days.
