Man killed after crashing into Fayette County home

REPUBLIC, Pa. (KDKA) -- An early morning single-vehicle crash has left a 26-year-old man dead.

While all of the details are still being investigated, officials say a blue pickup truck ran into several different objects, causing William Vernon to lose control before flipping over, which ultimately ended in his death.

Just before 4 a.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police, Vernon was driving recklessly down Stone Church Road after hitting a telephone pole more than a mile away. From there he kept driving and flipped his truck over, stopping at the home of Darlene Brame and destroying her steps.

She said the wreck shook her home and woke up her whole family.

Police said Vernon died from his injuries, and those are details Brame leaves out when telling her kids but does talk about the terrifying moments she thought the truck went through her hom.

"It woke us up out of our dead sleep," she recalled. "It was a big bang, clash, no warning. It just shook the house, we woke up, and there he is."

The Fayette County Coroner is conducting an autopsy as police wait for any possible information, including a toxicology report for a possible explanation of the wreck.
