Community Holds Vigil For Family Killed By Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – Many in McKeesport gathered at the site of a fire that took the lives of six people Saturday morning.
Dozens of crying faces were seen among the crowd that gathered and sang "Amazing Grace."
The medical examiner says two adults and four children who died in a McKeesport fire Saturday morning died of smoke inhalation.
The manner of their death has still not been determined.
Investigators have not identified the cause of Saturday's fire, which killed a recently married woman, her four young children and her disabled father-in-law.
The Allegheny County medical examiner's office identified the victims as Hope Jordan, 27; Dominic Jordan, 7; Autumn Jordan, 6; Serenity Jakub, 3; Victoria Jordan, 2; and Ronald Egenlauf Sr., 55.
The sole survivor of the McKeesport blaze, Hope Jordan's husband, Keith Egenlauf, 23, remained hospitalized in critical condition. Relatives said he was burned over 55 percent of his body.
"I feel like I'm in a bad nightmare and just want to wake up from it," said Laverne Egenlauf. Egenlauf is the wife of Ronald Sr. and mother to survivor Keith.
"We do need help," she said. "We have six burials now and no insurance."
Their lack of insurance is something many in the community are trying to help solve.
An online fundraiser has already been set up. For more information on how to make a donation to the family, click here.
Many spaghetti dinners and other fundraisers have been planned.
