Red Cross Operating Shelter At Convention Center For Oakland Fire Residents
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A total of 74 people are displaced from their homes after a fire tore through their apartment complex in Oakland along De Raud Street over the weekend.
The American Red Cross has partnered with local officials to provide shelter for the affected residents at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The building has been condemned.
The fire initially broke out Saturday but rekindled Sunday afternoon.
The shelter is providing residents with immediate needs including clothing, medications and food.
So far, 28 residents have taken refuge inside the shelter.
KDKA's Amy Wadas Reports:
"It's just amazing how something can change from having a stable living condition to all of the sudden everything is gone. In an instant," said displaced resident Christopher Green.

KDKA has reached out to building management, but a message said to call back on Monday.
