CMU Teams With Tony Awards To Honor Educators

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Broadway's biggest stars will shine this weekend at the Tony Award.

A local university is playing a big role in the production.

Carnegie Mellon University has partnered with The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing, which produce the Tony Awards.

Two alumni, Zachary Quinto and Matt Bomer, will announce the national campaign to nominate and choose educators who excel in teaching the arts at the elementary and high school levels.

"We talk a lot about being an advocate for arts education and what better way to stimulate appreciation and respect and advocacy for that then to establish this honors program," said Dan Martin, the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at CMU.

Online nominations will be accepted starting in September.
