One killed, two hurt in shooting in Clairton

One man killed in weekend shooting in Clairton

CLAIRTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- One man is dead and two others were injured after a shooting in Clairton Sunday morning.

Police say it all started with a fight and closed a large stretch of a major road.

Carolyn Williams read her Sunday scripture outside. It's a more serene sight than right after the early morning chaos.

"I had just watched TV and turned it off," Williams said. "And just about was winding down around 3 [a.m.]. And then, all of a sudden, I heard a 'boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom.'"

Those booms she heard were gunshots. Police say they received calls before 4 a.m. Sunday morning of what they call a "large disturbance" near State Street and Shaw Avenue. It happened as Williams was about to get some sleep.

First responders say they saw multiple people fighting in the street. Not too long after, multiple shots were fired.

"I jumped out the bed. I was scared,"  Williams said.

Police say three men were shot. Two are expected to survive. The third drove away to escape and died after crashing his car.

Crews lifted up the car and towed it away. Next to it is part of a now-broken pole held up by wires. Some people say their lights went out.

"The power went out completely," Williams said. "And when it went out, it made a popping sound."

Parts of State Street were closed off for much of early Sunday morning.

Duquesne Light crews worked to replace the snapped pole.

Not too far from there is where Williams prays -- for those involved, and for those around her.

"It's getting too close, and you know, with strange families and people coming into the city," she said.

Allegheny County police say anyone with information should call them.
