Christian Bey sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of off-duty police officer Calvin Hall
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The man convicted of shooting and killing off-duty Pittsburgh police officer Calvin Hall will spend life in prison with no chance of parole.
The sentence was handed down to Christian Bey on Monday morning at the Allegheny County Courthouse.
Earlier this year, Bey was found guilty of first-degree criminal homicide.
The 36-year-old officer was shot on July 14, 2019, while trying to break up an argument at a party on Monticello Street in Homewood. He died of his injuries three days later.
Hall's family members, along with members of the Pittsburgh police and legal communities, packed a fifth-floor courtroom to witness the judge pass the sentence on Bey.
Several witness statements were read to the court from Hall's family. His visibly emotional mother, Louella Hall Carter, addressed the court, reading a letter to her son saying, "you gave me a sense of pride to know that as a mother I raised such a good man."
Before the trial, the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office withdrew its intent to seek the death penalty against Bey.
