Friends, Family Gather For Candlelight Vigil Remembering Christi Spicuzza

PITCAIRN, Pa. (KDKA) - Loved ones of Christi Spicuzza, a mother who was killed while driving for Uber earlier this month, came together Friday to recognize her life.

Friday and community members in Pitcairn helped organize a public candlelight vigil and prayer service. A few dozen people showed up at Pitcairn Park for the event.

Many of them were strangers who offered support to Spicuzza's family and friends.

Lucy Galli, of New Kensington, was one of those people. She told KDKA that she survived an experience similar to Spicuzza's back in 2016 while leaving for work in the morning.

She did not know Spicuzza but said she wanted to show support.

"I'm only here to honor Christi's life, her bravery and courage, because I feel it deep in my heart," said Galli.

Police said Spicuzza was driving for Uber earlier this month when her passenger, Calvin Crew, held her at gunpoint and killed her.

Family members of Spicuzza said the pain they're experiencing from this loss has been something they've never felt or could imagine.

Brandon Marto, Spicuzza's fiancé, said, "She was a mother first, caring, loving, her children meant the world to her. Her kids were everything to her and me."

Marto is also demanding changes to Uber's privacy policy, saying his tearful pleas for information over the phone between the time she went missing and the time her body was found got him nowhere.

"The police called, nothing, they cooperated by telling them to get a warrant or subpoena. That's how they cooperated. And they wouldn't release anything until that happened. That has to change," said Marto.

The family also expressed thanks to the many people who have reached out with prayers and words of encouragement. They also thanked local law enforcement for their work to help catch Spicuzza's suspected killer.
