Chris Hoke: Steelers' Locker Room Needs To Support Bell
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Will the Steelers' locker room rally around Le'Veon Bell or cast him out?
That's what "The Fan Morning Show" hosts wanted to know when Chris Hoke joined them this morning.
Hoke, a former Steelers defensive lineman and current KDKA-TV analyst, talked about the team with training camp set to get underway in the next day. During the interview, he said that Bell's teammates have no choice but to stand by him in the wake of his reported four-game drug suspension.
"You want to support him," Hoke said. "You're hoping like heck that that doesn't happen, that he does not get suspended, because he makes you better instantly. He's a superstar…you support the guy. He's your teammate, he's your friend, and you want to make sure that he knows that he has your support through this whole thing."
Hoke also said that he believes Ben Roethlisberger will be more than ready to make do if Bell is sidelined to start the season along with Martavis Bryant.
"He's the ultimate leader," Hoke said. "He is the lead dog of that team and of that offense, and so he's going to step forward. He gets it. He knows that if [Le'Veon] Bell's not on the field…that there's going to be more pressure on him…but Ben's had pressure on him his whole career, so I don't see there will be any issue."
