11-year-old girl in Harrison Township killed after being hit by vehicle

Child riding bike killed by driver of vehicle in Pittsburgh area

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — An 11-year-old girl was hit and killed by the driver of a vehicle in Harrison Township on Tuesday night. 

The Allegheny County Police Department said the girl, later identified as 11-year-old Roxanne Bonnoni, was hit by a vehicle along Kuntz Street around 7:30 p.m. 

When first responders arrived at the scene, they performed life-saving measures on the girl, but she died at the scene. 

The initial information was that the girl was riding a bike, but police said in an update on Wednesday that she was "on foot" when she was hit. 

The driver remained at the scene. Police are working with the district attorney's office to decide whether to charge the driver. 

DePaul School remembers victim

The DePaul School for Hearing and Speech said in a Facebook post that Bonnoni was one of their "beloved" students.

"She was an integral part of our DePaul family since she was 3 years old, known for her boundless imagination, love of storytelling, and the joy she brought to everyone around her," the school wrote. 

The school offered its condolences to her family and said it's working to offer grief support to students, staff and families.  

"We ask that you keep Roxanne's family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this unimaginable grief." 

Second child hit and killed this week in the Pittsburgh area

Tuesday's deadly incident was the second time in three days a child riding their bike was hit and killed by a driver. 

Police said Courtney Carter was riding her bike on Rosedale Street in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood when the driver of the SUV hit and killed her on Sunday
