Chelsea Clinton Campaigns For Mom In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- About 200 people gathered on Friday to hear someone who knows Hillary Clinton better than most.

"I'd like to introduce to you a former first daughter and a future first daughter of the United States," declared Erin McClelland, Democratic nominee for Congress In the 12th District, "and one bad-ass mom herself. Ladies and gentlemen, Chelsea Clinton."

Chelsea Clinton was the featured speaker at two rallies -- one at the Rivers Club downtown followed by another at the University of Pittsburgh.

"I'm super excited about being back in Pittsburgh," said Clinton.

The 36-year old mother of two who married a Philadelphian did have a confession.

"I hope you will forgive me for being an Eagles fan. I know, I know. It was part of the deal when I married my husband. I know."

Choosing her words carefully, the soft-spoken Chelsea, a key link to the coveted young millennial women voters, targeted Donald Trump.

"I certainly never thought I'd see in my lifetime the type of rhetoric we hear from Donald Trump and his campaign."

Without specifically mentioning Trump's video bus tape or the women who have accused him of sexual abuse, Chelsea Clinton was clear.

"We can't allow that to go unanswered because words do matter. Actions do matter, and what we're fighting for in this campaign really matters"

At Pitt one women told Chelsea to thank her mother for her debate demeanor when attacked by Trump.

"She has consistently chosen to go high when he-who-shall-not-be-named consistently goes so low that he is slithering in the dirt," the supporter said.

"My mother doesn't get rattled by bullies, and she never forgets what and who she's fighting for. So thank you."

"I think this is the most consequential election in my lifetime, and I feel that way in part because I am a parent."

The mother of a two-year old and a 14-week old acknowledged that some things come before politics.

"I'm still breastfeeding," she told supporters.

"I talk about this very openly because I don't think this should exist in the shadows. So from here I'm probably going to go pump. My son has a cold so he's not here with me today, and I do think as women we can be our full selves."

And while Chelsea didn't attack Trump directly over alleged sexual acts, supporters who praised Hillary Clinton did.

"The words coming out of Donald Trump's mouth make me so angry, and to see her standing up on stage representing women and our country with such grace is really heartening and encouraging," one young woman told Chelsea.

Chelsea did reject Trump's criticism of her mother for being over-prepared, saying women are often accused of that.

"I do want a president that is over-prepared, and I do want a president who knows the details, and I do want a president that sweats the small stuff, every single day."

Chelsea Clinton's visit to Pittsburgh will certainly not be the last Clinton visit before election day.

With Donald Trump pressing hard to win this must-win state, you can expect the Clintons, one of them, to be back again before November 8th.
