Central Valley Tries For State Title In Wake Of Player's Death

BEAVER COUNTY (KDKA) – Central Valley High School carried the No. 60 jersey of Dominick Treemarchi onto the field with them before Friday night's state title game, just days after they attended his funeral.

Central Valley came up short, losing to Archbishop Wood from the Philadelphia area, 33-14.

But all five TVs in Papa Duke's in Center Township were on the game.

There wasn't much to cheer about through the beginning of the game.

That is until the room erupted in cheering just before the first half ended, when an interception returned for a touchdown.

Emotionally, it's been a roller coaster week for Central Valley since Treemarchi died last weekend, after suffering severe respiratory distress.

He was honored by his teammates at the game played in Hershey.

Four other Beaver County teens are facing charges for allegedly not trying to help Treemarchi.

His death sent shock waves through the community, but Treemarchi's family urged the team to play as scheduled and players agreed.

Despite losing, people back home were still proud of the team.

"This team's playing for No. 60 and our prayers and thoughts are going out to them," said one fan watching the game.

"Tough week, but we'll watch them again next year," said another fan. "They overcame a lot to play in this game."

The cause and manner of Treemarchi's death still remains under investigation.

Clairton also lost out to Bishop Guilfoyle, 19-18.
