CBS Sports' Esiason: Nobody Playing Better Than Ben In NFL Right Now
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - NFL on CBS Analyst and former quarterback Boomer Esiason joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Thursday to talk Steelers/Dolphins.
Esiason has been impressed with the play of Ben Roethlisberger and thinks he's having an MVP-type season.
"Ben, the last two weeks, has been off the charts," Esiason said. "He has been about as good as I've seen him be."
Esiason says Ben and Matt Ryan are running neck and neck right now for the MVP award. However, Ryan faces another tough road test this Sunday.
During his weekly appearance on 93-7 The Fan on Tuesday, Roethlisberger said the Steleers' tough practices might be leading to injuries.
Boomer is buying it, saying Ben may know what is going better with his team. But, he said Ben should have played when he did when they had two-a-days for five straight weeks.
"I think Mike Tomlin has taken a page straight out of Bill Cowher's playbook," Esiason said. "Tomlin's feeling is the Steelers are known as the toughest team in football and we are going to practice like it."
Boomer applauds Tomlin for not making it soft or treating it like a "spa" because it's not - it's professional football.
The Steelers are heavy favorites heading to Miami on Sunday for their 1 p.m. kickoff on KDKA-TV. However, Boomer points out anything can happen as six underdogs won just last week.
"You never know what team is going to show up," Esiason said. "While we all think Pittsburgh is going to win and they should by 10 points, I would never take a team lightly just because of what we saw last week."
