CBS Broadcaster Solomon Wilcots: 'Roethlisberger Is Best QB In NFL'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- NFL on CBS broadcaster and analyst Solomon Wilcots is impressed by the Steelers offense and the plethora of weapons it has at it's disposal.
Wilcots joined "The Fan Morning Show" Friday to discuss the offense and the other story lines heading into Sunday's Dolphins - Steelers matchup that he has the call on with play-by-play man Spero Dedes on KDKA-TV.
"Antonio Brown goes back to his hometown in Miami, you know he wants to show well, and you know they are going to want to get him the football. But, at the end of the day, you look at the Miami Dolphins, they have the worst run defense in the National Football League, giving up an average of 150 rush yards a game. So, Le'veon Bell is expected to get his and DeAngelo Williams might even chip in. If the Steelers rush for over 200 yards in this game, I wouldn't be surprised," said Wilcots.
The Steelers are heavy favorites to win on Sunday, and Wilcots says that if the Steelers lose, it will not be because Miami beat them, but they beat themselves.
"What the Dolphins would have to do, you have to shut down the run game. You cannot allow Pittsburgh to pound you on first or second down with the run game, and then you have to defend Le'veon Bell coming out of the backfield, and then you've got to stop Antonio Brown, and if you stop him you've got Wheaton and you have Coates and you have Jesse James. I think they have a full arsenal, first of all you have to stop the run and you have to create turnovers [if you're Miami]," said Wilcots.
Wilcots also heaped very high praise on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
"Ben has done some wonderful things, I think he's a future Hall of Famer, I do believe he is the best quarterback in the National Football League for a lot of different reasons, and to say that he is the best quarterback in his draft class is saying something because I think, at the end of the day, all three of them, Ben, Eli and Phillip Rivers will all end up in Canton one day. I think in due time [Roethlisberger] will get all the credit that's coming to him but I think that time is right now," Wilcots said.
Looking further down the road in this 2016 season, Wilcots believes that the AFC champions will either be Pittsburgh, or a very familiar team.
"It's going to be New England and it's going to be Pittsburgh," said Wilcots. "As you well know, I mean for as good as Pittsburgh is, in the back of everyone's mind wearing black and gold, 'Can we beat Belichick? Can we beat Tom Brady?' Especially if we have to go to Gillette Stadium where they seem to always win, they never lose there. So getting home field advantage I think in the postseason is going to be very important."
