CBS Analyst: Pitt Hanging With UNC Would Get Panthers Off The Bubble
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- CBS Sports Network college basketball analyst Chris Spatola joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday to offer his take on Friday's Pitt vs. UNC ACC Tournament game, and on Pitt's chances of making the NCAA Tournament after the Panthers' win over Wake Forest.
Spatola talked about what he thinks about Pitt's resume.
"I'll be honest with you," Spatola said. "I have a hard time understanding Pitt's situation, because to me, they're the ultimate eye-test team. In order to project Pitt into the tournament, you have to bring in so much subjectivity, because the numbers don't bear it out with them. I still see them on the bubble, even with the Pitt win yesterday. However, if it's competitive today, even in a loss against [North] Carolina, I see them in."
When it comes to the notion that Jamie Dixon has been over-coaching the Panthers, Spatola thinks that even if that characterization is valid, it applies to the majority of coaches, not just Dixon.
"I think that you could say that about 80 percent of the coaches in college basketball," Spatola said. "I think, 'over-coaching' may be a little bit too strong, but certainly we are in a day and age where coaches want to definitely control a lot of what's going on out there."
