Cardinals Had Historic Season By The Numbers But May Lose Offensive Coordinator

By Danny Cox

It really is hard to ignore the fact that the Arizona Cardinals have had a season for the record books, and more than just in the franchise. This has been an amazing season by the team, and they were rewarded by something they worked very hard to earn: A first-round bye in the playoffs.

Looking at the numbers, they've done so much more than people may realize, but it could end up costing them a key cog of their offense.

Offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin to interview with Buccaneers

There were a number of head coach openings in the NFL after the regular season ended, and it's no surprise that Cardinals' offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin is being looked at. The most recent opening was the head coaching position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Lovie Smith was just recently fired.

Goodwin may not have expected it so soon, but he will be interviewing for the head coaching position with the Buccaneers. It was announced by the Bucs that Goodwin and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott would both be speaking with the team about the vacancy.

Both coaches were able to be interviewed by the Bucs due to their teams having byes this past week. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians would love nothing more than to keep Goodwin on his staff, but he certainly understand the reasons that other teams are looking at him.

By the numbers, 2015 was a historic season for the Arizona Cardinals

Harold Goodwin is a huge reason the Cardinals have put up such great numbers in 2015, and those numbers can't be ignored. To go along with their 13-3 record, they racked up a total of 6,533 yards this season which destroyed the previous franchise record of 6,348 yards set back in 1984.

A number of other records were broken during the season, and one was the number of passing touchdowns in a season with 35. Yes, Drew Stanton did get a little bit of work done this season, but it was Carson Palmer who threw every single one of those touchdowns in 2015.

Other records broken in 2015 include the most number of points scored (489), total touchdowns (58), and the rest win-loss record in franchise history. Previously, the most games they had ever won in a season was 11 which they have done on three different occasions.

Numbers are great and so is a winning regular season record, but with the playoffs now here, it's a whole new season.
