Cardinals Beat Out Pirates For Relief Pitcher

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington made an offer for Marlins reliever Steve Cishek, but his bid was topped by the St. Louis Cardinals, who won the rights to a trade for Cishek by sending Double-A pitcher Kyle Barraclough to Miami in return.

The information was reported by MLB.com writer Joe Frisaro, who added that the Dodgers also made an offer for Cishek, who is 29.

The sidearm-hurling right-hander pitched his way out of the Marlins' closer role this season after finishing 2013 with 34 saves while posting a 2.33 ERA and saving 39 games with a 3.17 ERA last year.

Barraclough was not listed among one site's top 47 Cardinals prospects heading into 2015.

There remain seven days before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline is reached.
