Car smashes through the front of Advance Auto Parts store in West Homestead

WEST HOMESTEAD, Pa. (KDKA) -- A car slammed through the front of the Advance Auto Parts store along W. 7th Avenue in West Homestead early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. when a driver who was speeding and passing other vehicles, clipped a U-Haul van and another vehicle before it slammed through the front of the store.

The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Raymont Goodwine, is now under arrest.

Surveillance video captured the wild moment when a sparking, Dodge sedan crashed through the shop. Eventually, Goodwine emerged from the store and left the scene.

Several miles away in Duquesne is where West Homestead Fire Chief John Dindak said witnesses saw Goodwine speeding on the road before making it to W. 8th Avenue which turns into W. 7th Avenue.

"He was passing vehicles all the way up the road, all the way from Duquesne through here," Dindak said. "He was on his own, just driving like a goof."

The sedan that crashed into the store appeared to be five or six car lengths into the building, according to Chief Dindak.

"It's just the way the world is right now, everybody's in a hurry," Dindak said.

Dindak said thankfully, no one was hurt, including Goodwine.

Police identified Goodwine through the vehicle registration and found him on W. 7th by the WHEMCO Steel building.

According to the criminal complaint, Goodwine refused to listen to officers' commands, saying "he did not need to speak with [them], and he would not allow [them] to detain him."

Officers said eventually, they initiated a "drive stun" taser into his stomach to take him into custody. However, that still didn't stop Goodwine.

Police said he was so uncooperative they needed the help of a Munhall officer to place him into the cruiser, who Goodwine at one point kicked. Court records said Goodwine even tried to grab a different officer's firearm inside the vehicle.

Goodwine is facing several charges, including aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

At this time, there's no word whether alcohol or drugs played a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.

KDKA-TV reached out to Advance Auto Parts for comment but has not heard back. It's unclear when the store will reopen.
