Man Arrested After Car Slams Into House In Green Tree
GREEN TREE (KDKA) - Police have arrested a man for driving through several yards and slamming into a house in Green Tree.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. Thursday in the 1100-block of School Street.
A car ran through several yards and then slammed into the corner of a house. The crash left cracks and a big dent in the brick house. It also shattered a window at the house.
Leo Marsh says his son was sleeping on the couch that is against the wall that was hit.
"It was kind of a loud thing and my son started yelling," said Marsh. "We ran out and actually, the guy was sitting in his car. I guess he backed it up a little bit."
Marsh says he could see through tracks in the snow that the driver had driven through two yards, over a retaining wall, across a driveway, into another yard and then hit his house.
The driver of the car, 25-year-old Fred Smallhoover, ran away from the scene.
"I invited him in, hoped he was okay," said Marsh. "He had the composure to try to get it out, then he locked the car and I guess took his keys and left."
Police followed footprints in the snow to a nearby house.
Police say when the tow truck got on scene, Smallhoover came out of the house and was taken to the police station.
"He got scared. Went into a house where he is dog-sitting for a few minutes to gather his thoughts before he came out and talked to our officers," Green Tree Police Chief Bob Downey said. "He's claiming he hit a patch of ice."
Chief Downing said based on the officers' observations and a field sobriety test, Smallhoover was taken to have a blood test to determine his alcohol level.
No one was hurt in the crash.
