1 Killed After Car Slams Into Duquesne Apartment Building
DUQUESNE (KDKA) - Police believe speed and alcohol played a role in a fatal crash last night in Duquesne.
According to police, the man who was killed was leaving his apartment complex when a speeding car hit his vehicle.
The impact sent the car flying and slammed into the victim's very own first floor apartment.
Parrish Parker, 41, didn't have time to get out of the way of a car police said was speeding down Duquesne Boulevard.
"I couldn't believe it. It wasn't real to me. In a way it still not," Justice Parker-Dulin said.
Parker-Dulin said her father left around 9:30 p.m. Sunday to pick up her younger brothers, ages 6 and 14.
However, police said as Parker pulled into the intersection in front of his apartment complex, another driver lost control, ran through the median and crashed into him.
"The guy just was speeding and just smacked him and just smacked him right into his house. Right into his bedroom," Parker-Dulin said.
Police not only believe that high speed played a role, but also believe the other driver was under the influence.
That driver was injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police said a passenger in that car ran following the crash, but was found and interviewed.
"Where you going to be speeding like that? Nowhere. To probably catch the next red light that was coming up. There was no need to be speeding like that," Parker-Dulin said. "I loved him so much. I just miss my dad."
Allegheny County Police said the other driver will face a long list of charges once he's released from the hospital, likely facing homicide by vehicle while DUI.
Duquesne Boulevard was closed as a result of the crash, but reopened around 4 a.m.
