Minivan Overturns On Hillside, Crashes Into House
PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- A mini-van struck a house in the 500 block of Lougeay Road - a winding, steep and narrow road in Penn Hills.
A man driving his mini-van up the hill, crossed the road and went over the hillside. The van ended up on its side, leaning against a house.
A woman who heard the crash called 911, and immediately ran next door to see if her neighbor was okay.
"I went inside the house, the home owner is hearing impaired, so I had to go in and wake her up and get her out of bed," Tracey Kernick said. "She had no idea, she said her cat jumped off the bed, and went running."
The driver of the vehicle was removed once the mini-van was stabilized.
"He was conscious, he was talking to us when we removed him from the vehicle, and was transported to a local hospital," Penn Hills Fire Chief J.P. Davis told KDKA TV's Ralph Iannotti.
Tracey Kernick said drivers seldom pay attention to the 25 mph speed limit, and just last month, a driver damaged her car that she had left parked in her driveway.
The most bizarre twist?
On this same day back in 2008, a mini van went off the side of Lougeay Road, and struck the same house that was hit today.
"It was a white van, he come flying up the street, he was drunk. He did get out, he wanted to leave, my husband wouldn't let him. There was a little girl sleeping in the room right where he hit. The homeowners, when I want to knock on the door, thought the house was on fire cause all the exhaust was going inside the house," Kernick said.
