CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- Emergency crews responded to two separate crashes Wednesday afternoon, one in Washington County and the other along Route 28 in Allegheny County.

An SUV smashed into a telephone pole and sideswiped another vehicle at Pike Street and Hutchinson Avenue, in front of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, around 3:30 p.m. in Canonsburg.

A driver was sitting at the light, waiting to cross the intersection when she saw the crash happened. She said the light had just turned green, but thankfully, she hesitated.

"I saw him coming really fast up the road, and he sideswiped the guy's car and the pole. I thought the pole was going to come through our windshield and hit us. It just happened so fast. I decided not to go when I saw his car flying down the road," said witness Bobbi Jo Irizarry.

The pole was left dangling over the roadway.

Police say the driver was taken to the hospital, but so far there's no word on his condition, or what caused him to crash. A police officer tells KDKA's Brenda Waters that the driver told him he was distracted.

Meanwhile, in Allegheny County, traffic is slow going on Route 28 near the 31st Street Bridge because of a separate crash.

A vehicle ended up on its roof.

There's no word yet on if anyone was injured.
