Canon-McMillan Baseball Coach Suspended Over Alleged Marijuana Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The head baseball coach at Canon-McMillan High School has been suspended after allegations surfaced that some of his players may have been smoking pot during a recent trip.

The school district has now launched an investigation.

Frank Zebrasky has been put on suspension after some players allegedly used marijuana on a team trip to South Carolina last week.

It happened when the team traveled to Myrtle Beach for training at the Cal Ripkin Baseball Center.

The school district has issued this statement:

"Since there is an ongoing district investigation into alleged student misconduct during a recent baseball team trip to Myrtle Beach, we can, at this point, only confirm that head baseball coach Frank Zabrasky has been suspended with pay pending its outcome. Because the matter in question involves possible personnel and student privacy issues, further comment by the district would be inappropriate."

Disciplinary action against the students is also possible.

While he has no knowledge of the Canon Mac situation, Superintendent Mike Panza, of West Jefferson Hills, says keeping young people out of trouble on the road is no small task.

"A teacher can do everything, search bags, etc. Someone who wants to make a poor decision is still going to find a way to do that," said Panza.

There's no word on how long the investigation will take, but the team takes on Upper St. Clair on the road Wednesday afternoon.
