Cal U Women's Basketball Team Wins NCAA Division II Title
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The California University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team has won the national championship.
The Cal U women's team defeated California Baptist Friday night 86-69 for the NCAA Division II title.
A 21-0 run in the first half help.
This is the Vulcans second national championship in the program's history.
The team has been carrying the memory of a fallen teammate along with them.
Shanice Clark died suddenly from a blood disorder in January.
Meanwhile, the Indiana University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team was looking for their own NCAA Division II Championship on Saturday afternoon, but faced a tougher task against Florida Southern and fell 77-62.
Florida Southern pretty much controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish. The Mocs broke it open in the second half and Kevin Capers was the big star.
Devante Chance had 18 for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks beat Tarleton State on Thursday night to reach Saturday's title game.
IUP last advanced to the championship game back in 2010.
