Butler Co. Man Not About To Break Streak, In San Francisco For Super Bowl 50

SAN FRANCISCO (KDKA) -- A man from Butler County is in San Francisco for Super Bowl 50.

Tom Henschel, from Winfield Township, pretty much had to go because he's one of a select group of people who have never missed a Super Bowl.

He's one of three members of the "Never Miss a Super Bowl Club."

"I really feel like a VIP sometimes," said Henschel.

It was just chance that he got tickets to the first one, before it was even called the "Super Bowl."

He watched the Packers beat the Chiefs in 1967 at the LA Coliseum, which was only about two-thirds full.

Ask him about his favorite Super Bowl memories, and of course, he talks about the Black and Gold.

"I have to go back to the Steelers in 9 and 10, 13 and 14," said Henschel. "All four of them were so special."

Actually, he says all six of the ones the Steelers won were pretty memorable.

As for the Super Bowl, he says it's definitely changed over the years. His very first ticket cost $12, but of course, admission now is pretty pricey.

As a retired airline ticket agent, he says he's never been rolling in money, but it's always been worth it to save up.

"I saved all year to go the Super Bowl 'cause I had to pay scalpers many, many years 'cause I never wanted to break my string," said Henschel.

The NFL has put Henschel on a VIP list, so he can now buy tickets at face value.

He paid $2,500 this year.

In addition to the members of the "Never Miss A Super Bowl Club," there's also a group called "The Super Bowl Five" who also attend every year, and a few others who have the same record. In all, about 16 people.

Henschel says he'll keep going, as long as he's able.
