1 Killed In Accident Involving School Bus And Car

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person was killed after a school bus and car crashed in the Memorial Park area of New Kensington Friday morning.

The Westmoreland County Coroner's Office identifies the victim as 37-year-old Edward Nee III of New Kensington. He died of blunt force trauma to the neck and chest.

Police say there were 15 to 20 students from Highlands High School on the bus.

One of the students suffered a broken nose.

"He had a bloody nose," said Luke Roenig, a student who was on the bus. "There was some blood on his forehead and all the students were just crowding around him, trying to help him out."

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. on State Route 366 just west of Marlboro Drive.

A student on the bus says the car spun out of control, and the bus couldn't stop in time.

"It appears that a car traveling northbound crossed the center line and impacted the front of the bus," said Chief Tom Klawinski, of the New Kensington Police Department. "The driver of the car is the one that's deceased."

"We basically just "T"ed into the car – that would be my guess. It was just ripped into pieces," added Roenig.

According to the coroner's office, road conditions may have been a factor in the crash.

The students were on their way to Forbes East Votech. They were taken back to the high school for evaluation and to talk with staff and counselors.

Video from NewsChopper 2 showed at least one person on a stretcher.

Nee was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 a.m.

He was on his way to work at the New Kensington Dairy Queen when the crash happened.

Nee had moved back to New Kensington from Florida to care for his parents.

"You're talking about a good guy who did everything good," said Kevin Abraham, Nee's employer. "I don't think there's too many people who could say anything bad about him. That's just the type of person he was."
