Brian Howell: Colorado Good Team, But Miss Dinwiddie
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - The Pitt Panthers take on the Colorado Buffaloes at 1:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Orlando in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
The game can be heard on 93-7 The Fan.
Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera told Colin Dunlap that the Buffaloes are not the same team since Spencer Dinwiddie was lost for the season Jan. 12 at Washington.
"They've done a pretty good job adjusting to it, but they're not the same team. They're just not as good of a team," Howell said. "They're still a good team. But I do think it would be a lot different if Spencer was here."
Dunlap asked Howell what the Buffaloes reaction was to facing Pitt in the 8-9 matchup.
"They're excited, they're a confident bunch, they believe they can play with anybody," Howell said. "There was still some doubt going into the end of the season, so for them to get into the tournament, they're excited. The eighth seed is the highest seed they've ever had since the NCAA went to the 64/68 team field."
Howell said that 6'10" forward Josh Scott was the Buffaloes' most consistent player all year until the Pac 12 Tournament. Despite the recent struggles, Scott averaged 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this season, with thirteen double-doubles.
"He's a guy that consistently gets this team 15 points and 7, 8 rebounds just by walking on the court," Howell said. "He can hurt a lot of teams. He can be a big factor in this game."
