BRENTWOOD (KDKA) -- It was both a chaotic and an emotional scene at Brentwood Towne Square when a Dodge Charger plowed into a BoRics Hair Care salon Tuesday evening, injuring 8 people, at least two of them critically.

First responders rushed to the shopping plaza just after 7 p.m. when word went out over the police radio that this was a mass casualty incident.

"I think the car went straight in," Brentwood Emergency Management Direcotr John Balkovec said. "There was no stopping, no nothing. We have no idea what caused it. I can't tell you if it was medical or anything."

The inside of the salon looked like a bomb had exploded. The car only stopped when it hit the back of the building.

The driver of the car - a 58-year-old man - was among the injured. At least one person was pinned beneath the car in the crash.

Ignor Spreckic was four doors down when the car hit the building.

"People were saying is it thunder? Is it an earthquake? It was like the whole floor was shaking," he said. "We were scared. We knew something was bad, something was going bad."

Lisa Washington's Report:

Randy Klaus was in the salon moments before the crash.

"It went through the front, went through where the cash register was and down the side where they have all the chairs, where the girls cut hair," Klaus said.

Shiela Nelson, of Brentwood, was headed into the salon to schedule an appointment later this week.

"I hope there's no casualties," she said. "It's very upsetting, very upsetting. We were lucky."

Allegheny County Police said in a statement that "there was no indication that the incident was anything other than a medical or alcohol related accident."

The owner of Brentwood Towne Square released the following statement Tuesday night:

"The management of Brentwood Towne Square offers our sincere thoughts to the victims involved in the distressing accident that occurred Tuesday evening. Our hearts go out to them and their loved ones, and we are thankful that others in the area walked away safely. We are working closely with the Brentwood Police Department to learn as much as possible about the incident."
