Bracketologist Shelby Mast On Pitt's Tournament Chances: 'They're A Good Ways Out Right Now'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Following Pitt's 61-49 loss on the road to ACC opponent Virginia, Bracketologist Shelby Mast joined the Starkey and Mueller show to talk about Pitt's chances of getting into this years big dance.

"They're a good ways out right now," Mast said about Pitt's chances adding that a win over Virginia would have gotten them into the 'First Four Out" category on his bracket.

Mast did take a look at what Pitt needs to do the remainder of this season in order to get to a place where they'll be considered a tournament team.

"They need to win out the final five games," Mast said.  "They could take the loss to Syracuse because that wouldn't be bad but they've got three teams on their schedule that are outside the top 100, they better not lose to any of those three...and we see how the ACC Tournament draw stacks up.  They're going to be a mid-seed in that draw, so they'l probably get a Miami or Clemson in the first game and then probably Virginia or Notre Dame and that would be awful helpful to win that."

Mast talked about the other teams on the bubble right now and what they could do down the stretch to help Pitt out.

"They don't control their own destiny," Mast said about Pitt. "Other bubble teams could start falling off and that only helps them. If Miami loses the next three of four, N.C. State, Massachusetts, teams like that that are right there in the discussion, if they start losing right now, all of a sudden Pittsburgh's going to start moving up, but they're not in a position where they really control their own destiny unless they win out completely."
