Boy dies in drowning at Moraine State Park

MUDDY CREEK, Pa. (KDKA) -- A boy is dead after he drowned at Moraine State Park on Monday.

Just before 2 p.m., multiple agencies were called to Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore for reports of a 5-year-old boy who was found unresponsive, park manager Dustin Drew said.

First responders performed life-saving measures on the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said he was swimming with family in the authorized swimming section, which has a maximum depth of 5 feet and was about 2 to 3 feet deep where he was found.

Park rangers are handling the investigation but no foul play is suspected. The boy's identity has not been released.
