15-year-old high school student dies in Pittsburgh-area shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A 15-year-old boy died after being shot in the head in Wilmerding.
Allegheny County police say 911 dispatchers were notified of a shooting along Patton Street just before midnight on Tuesday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a boy who had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner identified him as 15-year-old Dillian Shearer. The East Allegheny School District said Shearer was a student at the high school.
"Our hearts are broken and we pray for the family and all affected by this act of violence," East Allegheny School District Acting Superintendent Joe DiLucente said in a letter to families and students on Wednesday.
DiLucente said the North Versailles Police Department and the district's security will provide "enhanced" security for students and staff.
"In addition to our EA staff school counselors, we are utilizing additional counselors and community groups to provide extra support to our students and staff. District Administration and teachers are working tirelessly to recognize and meet the needs of all," the letter said.
"Please feel free to share your level of need so that we may more effectively respond as we work together to heal," DiLucente added.
In a separate letter, DiLucente said reports of a social media threat targeting the district are not credible.
Homicide detectives are leading the investigation into the deadly shooting.
