Boy, 1, Dies In Hospital After Being Found Unresponsive In New Castle

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) - Police are investigating after a child was found unresponsive while visiting his father's home in New Castle for the weekend.

Investigators say 1-year-old Kardiar Williams, of Warren, Ohio, was found in the early morning hours of Monday.

Police say the initial call came in for an unresponsive child. Williams had been staying at the Oak Leaf Gardens apartments with his dad. His grandmother also lives in the development, but in a different apartment.

"[Monday] morning, a little after 4 a.m., we got a call to Jameson Hospital," said New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem.

The child was eventually transported to UPMC Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 9 a.m.

"The child was unresponsive," said Chief Salem. "He had some visible injuries to him, but this is still a very active investigation."

Because the boy did not live in the complex, few people in the there knew him, but they do know the shock of hearing a child's death is under investigation by the local police.

"It's very hard, it's sad, very sad," said Ashley Patrick, a neighbor. "It's hard to live up here knowing something like that happened."

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office is performing an autopsy.

The investigation continues.
