PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority issued a boil water advisory for the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Hazelwood, Swisshelm and a small portion of Greenfield on Saturday.
The advisory comes after a water-main break on the Duck Hollow Trail in Hazelwood at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday night.
The break, which was isolated and repaired around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, caused low and no water pressure in the affected areas. According to the authority, when there is a water pressure loss, contaminants can enter the drinking water, prompting the advisory.
Approximately 2,000 households are affected.
Water buffaloes will be placed at Pittsburgh fire stations on Homestead Street at Commercial Street and on Flowers Avenue at Gertrude Street.
A searchable map of the impacted area is available HERE.
The PWSA says a first round of testing came back free of contamination. Two rounds of consecutive contaminant-free tests are needed to lift the boil water advisory.
