Body found in river in Crescent Township identified as missing Penn Hills woman

CRESCENT TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) — A body was found in the river in Crescent Township on Monday, police said. 

Photos from NewsChopper 2 showed first responders, including a fire truck, at the scene. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 25-year-old Nia Rash, who had been missing since Dec. 28, 2022, and was last seen getting off a bus on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh.

Police said there are no obvious signs of foul play. A cause and manner of death were not announced Tuesday.

"Our hearts are broken on the devastating news about my daughter, Nia. We were optimistic on a different outcome. She was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time," a statement from her mother said.
