Bob Grove: 'It's A No-Brainer' Fleury Starts When He's Ready

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Penguins have taken a 2-1 series lead over the Rangers without their starting goaltender and that has led to many questioning whether or not Marc-Andre Fleury should automatically go back between the pipes when he's healthy.

Penguins' historian Bob Grove is not one of those people.

He joined Joe Starkey of The Starkey and Mueller Show prior to Game 4 and talked about what he would do with Fleury once he's cleared to play.

"We're all very, very impressed by this kid," Grove said about Matt Murray. "He's got great skills, he's got great demeanor, the whole package. But he's also capable of having some bad games like any goaltender. So, if that happens, and Fleury is ready, it's a no-brainer, I'm going back to Marc-Andre Fleury the minute I can go back to him."

One player who hasn't lived up to expectations since coming back from his injury is Evgeni Malkin and Grove reacts to the comments made by Mike Sullivan that Malkin needs to "play the game the right way."

"We've all seen him do this, try to take the game on his own shoulders," Grove said about Malkin. "But for the most part, and every NHL star comes to this realization sooner or later, most of the time you try to do that, you're going to fail. So stay within the system, stay within your skill set and try to do something that's realistic for you to achieve. Geno just tries to go out and do it all himself, he's sort of on his own program and that's always been true to some degree, and Sullivan, I think, is kind of fighting him on that issue right now."
