Bloomfield Hopes Nice Weather Brings Record Numbers To "Little Italy Days"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Bloomfield neighborhood is known as "Little Italy," and these are the days that prove it.

The 14th annual Italian festival continues through Sunday, with booths and wagons extending several blocks down both sides of Liberty Avenue.

Organizer Sal Richetti says it's bigger than ever.

"We have probably close to 200 booths here. All different types of food vendors. We have four days of three stages, with over 30 acts."

It's hoped a weekend of sun will bring record numbers of visitors.

The Pleasure Bar tent is a popular stop. Mary McCabe has learned, over the years, to stay ahead of the growing lines.

"Every year there's new stops, more people, so it's fun," she says.

Janet Cercone Scullion signs copies of her Bloomfield history at the barbershop handed down from her father to her son.

"We're continuing the Cercone tradition of giving the best haircut in the state of Pennsylvania," she says proudly.

Tradition also continues at Angelo's Pizza. Owner Joey Posteraro says the festival keeps businesses busy.

"It's four days of, you get about three hours of sleep a night," he says.

Best of all, Sal Richetti says Little Italy is open to everyone.

"Everyone's Italian when you come to the festival," he said.
